These are my first pair of barefoot style shoes. When I initially bought the Lems Chelsea Boots (Waterproof) they were a half size too small (11.5). I exchanged them for size 12 and they fit much better. I have a rather narrow foot at 9cm wide. While my foot does not shift inside the boot, I do notice the larger width and volume of the boot. These boots are replacing my 8 year old Blundstones (AU 8.5)that were probably a half size too small. The difference between the two boots is huge.
To make sure the boots are snug, which is what I'm used to, I end up wearing 2 pairs of socks and 2 insoles. Over the last month of wearing them, I am getting used to the feel and enjoy them more and more every day. As my toes begin to spread, they will take up more of the volume and will fit better.
I did notice that the ankles are a bit roomier than what I initially liked. If I were to buy another pair of boots of shoes from Lems, I would get a lace up pair, like the Boulder Boot.
Searching for a chelsea that is more footshaped than the big brand is finally here. They are light, roomy, comfortable and blend well with everything. The soles are thin and flexible but not to a point where you actually feel literally barefoot on the ground, which is ok with me. In saying that, for myself, I wouldn't mind a thicker more chunky sole without overdoing it. Maybe that's what their newer model offers, but I have yet to see them in person.
Haven't had a chance to test them in rainy conditions but walking through damp grass was not an issue.
They are quite pricey compared to the bigger brands but I thing they are worth the purchase. Here's hoping they'll last a long time.
I bought a full size bigger than my normal size and after getting home (across the country) and wearing them out, they're still too small for one foot. I really like these boots and I'm still wearing them but wish I had sized up even more. I have noticed a part of the rubber sole is coming apart from the boot, however. I've only had them a month so if they continue to come apart I'll be really disappointed.
Love the shoes. Waterproof as advertised and the customer service at Sole Freedom Is great!
Sizing is a little difficult to navigate. Breaking them in for the ankle height I wasn't prepared for. But they are very comfortable on the feet and I love them.
